Win a book: Bono's On The Move (updated)

A few days ago I mentioned that I had a book giveaway planned. The book is by Bono and it is called On The Move. On The Move pairs pictures that Bono took in Ethiopia in 1986 with a speech he gave at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington D.C. in 2006. Here is a man whose heart has been in Africa for a long time!

If you have loved ones who have been wondering why your heart is in Africa, hand them this book. This slim volume is a quick read, but it packs a powerful message about the importance of action. All proceeds from the book's sale go to the ONE 'Make Poverty History' Campaign.

Would you like to win a copy? I will be giving it away in a drawing on Saturday morning. All you have to do to enter the drawing is make a comment on this post and tell me how long you've been reading this blog. I am hoping to hear from lots of you!

Updated to Add: Since I posted this, I got an email from a reader informing me that Bono will be making an appearance on Americal Idol Wednesday night on behalf of ONE. Bono will meet with the Idol contestants to talk with them about ONE and the difference our advocacy is making in the lives of the world's poorest people. The Idol contestants will also perform "American Prayer," a song written by Bono and Dave Stewart about the AIDS emergency in Africa.

I don't tend to be a big American Idol fan-- I always feel too sorry for the people getting bashed every night to really enjoy the show. But I am going to try to tune in on Wednesday night. This would be another great way to introduce friends and family to ONE.

Other ways to help:
Donate to AHOPE AIDS orphans
Throw an orphanage shower
Gather diapers for you child's orphanage
Buy a bracelet

I have been a supporter of the ONE campaign since it was kicked off in Philadelphia. I love to see the world changing one person at a time through the works of people such as Bono, so thanks for highlighting this new book.

I've been following your blog for nearly a year when my husband and I started our adoption process. We're still eagerly awaiting our referral and check out your blog daily. Thanks!

I've been reading for a little over a month. I was in Ethiopia two years ago, and among other things, had a chance to visit with the children at Layla House in Addis. I would love to adopt from Ethiopia someday.

I've been a daily visitor for about 3 or 4 months. We are just beginning our home study process in order to adopt from Ethiopia. Bono's influence is changing the way the world responds to
Africa.

I've been reading your Owlhaven blog for a year now. I started reading this blog from its beginning!

My heart is in Africa, and in particular Ethiopia. I am prayerfully hopeful that one day my husband will say "yes" to adoption.

(I just ordered the On the Move book yesterday, so you don't have to enter me in the drawing. I can't wait to get it!)

Thanks! Stacie

I have been reading your blog for at least a year, and went back to read it from the beginning. I am hoping to start the adoption process in the next year.

The ONE campaign has made me more aware of AIDS crisis in Africa, own a t-shirt, keep finding more ways to help.

I have wanted to sponsor a child thru AHOPE, but being in Canada it is more difficult as the forms are set up for US residents.

Let's see, i remember Owlhaven when it had the orange owls! A loong time ago, and this blog nearly as long, one led to another. I have taught university-level classes in global issues that focused quite a bit on Africa but I have to say that this blog and others that I have encountered through the Ethiopia-adoption community have deepened my interest and involvement in Africa.

I haven't read this book but I have found that Bono, and DATA, and the ONE campaigne to be an effective way to get college students to think about the issues and challenges of Africa.

I am a daily reader even though an adoption for me and my family is a distant possibility.

Hmmm, I have no idea. Less than 1 year, but more than 6 months. Let's split the difference and call it 9 months. I guess I could go back and find my first comment and figure I started reading within that month, but that would be too much work for a 1/16+ chance at winning a book.

Mary,

We have been reading your Blog since 1/25/07, It was when you posted about amharic phrases!! Today's post really captured me because i'm currently going back to school and have lacked a little reading up on Africa. Homework in Modern China has taken the cake :-). I'm committed to finding a book to respark my reading. I will be reading this one for sure. Thanks Mary..and as always fabulous finds and posts!

Hi Mary,

I have been reading your blog for over a year - the duration of our homestudy and other preparations, our wait, and finally our journey to Ethiopia in February of this year to bring home our sweet baby boy. I usually forward your articles to my husband, who loves reading them too. Thanks so much for all your hard work, love, and dedication to family and adoption!

Hi Mary,

I'm brand new here, but I've seen you on a couple of my Yahoo groups--most recently ANBAfrica.

Looking forward to exploring more about ONE and getting to know you, too. We're already admirers of Bono both musically and politically.

I put a post on my blog about your giveaway and I'm entering on your other blog!

Thanks!

Can't quite remember....probably almost a year, since we had the dossier there in May last year. Your blog made the waiting time go more quickly. My husband & I still read almost every day & have good discussions about the topics you bring up. Thanks for pouring life into families that are going where you have already been.
