A
tiny miniscule portion of one days’ chatter from my 4 year old:
“Hey mommy? Can we have a little chat?”
(I must mention that ‘chat’ here is a misnomer because she does not really expect much back and forth conversation when she gets in a ‘chatty’ mood, just lots of mmm-hmm’s and nods from me as I hang raptly on her every word.) In any case, I must have agreed because in she plunged with her usual facial animation and Italian hand-motions.
“When I was in my room, I was thinking that we could play 2 games in each day. We have to skip Sunday, because we have to go really fast on Sunday [for church]. And skip Monday because we have to do school. But the other times, two games, OK? And when we’re done playing, we can play games with the baby too.
“And mommy, do you remember a long, long, long time ago when we went to Jack in the Box? And we got fries that were roundy roundy just like my hair, and I ate them and they were yummy. Can we go there again? Because they were really yummy.
“And mommy, did you know, when I saw you in Ethiopia, I didn’t recognize you, but I thought you looked good, and I thought you looked cute, and I liked you very much because you wanted to play with me a lot…”
I like you very much too, sweet girl!
