Sheraton Hotel: Addis

The Sheraton Hotel in Addis Ababa is said to be the finest hotel in all of Africa. Basic (nicely-equipped) rooms cost $230-$250 a night and suites can be much more expensive than that. That was a little too pricey for me, and so I never actually stayed there. But I did walk through the lobby on the way to and from the bank and can tell you it is amazing. High ceilings, marble pillars, an upper balcony, a fountain. This place is posh.

Thanks to my 3 year old needing to use the restroom, I even got to check out one of the public restrooms. Black marble. Real towels, gold fixtures, and-- get this-- a maid standing at attention ready, presumeably to help you wash up afterwards. I felt sorry for the poor girl, standing there in boredom all day. But I was impressed.

The Sheraton has a shuttle to and from the airport 24 hours a day. is about 15 miles from Bole International Airport and is located in the heart of the city near the National Palace. The hotel has a business center, laundry service, several shops, a bank, and a gorgeous pool with underground speakers.

How child-friendly are these "fancy" hotels like the Sheridan and Hilton? I'm picturing them full of business-people - would they be an appropriate place to stay with young children and a newly adopted infant?

Thanks.

They are very used to adoptive families, and I've heard many reports from families that staff is very solicitious and helpful.
