I’ve written about some of the most common lodging options for families visiting Addis. Here are some more places to consider, especially if you end up traveling in August and September during the influx of visitors celebrating the Ethiopian New Year.

Details: This hotel is in an area of town where a lot of embassy workers live. Families report that the hotel and staff are great. Rooms are a good size and there are refrigerators in the rooms.
Name: National Hotel
Location: Menelik Ave

Details: One family said their friends stayed here.
Name: Azi’s Guesthouse
Location: Bole Road across from the Mega Building

Cost per night: $50
Details: This guesthouse has a friendly staff and is behind a gate with 24 hour security. There is a kitchenette with a hotplate, fridge, electric kettle, and toaster. $50 a night includes a breakfast delivered every morning with coffee, tea, pastries, bread, butter, jam and fruit. It also includes laundry. It is close to many good restaurants and cafes including Indian, Italian, and Ethiopian.
Name: Addiskan Baptist Guest House
Location: Mekanissa area near AHOPE not far from Layla House

Cost per night: $16 per night. Breakfast is $2.50 per person.
Details: Extensive details and many pictures of thi guesthouse are available here on a website put together by a family who stayed here in 2006. Several families have said this is a very comfortable option in a convenient location.

Just wanted to let you know that we tried to contact Azi’s Guest House and my hubby got a message that said something like “A new numbering plan has been implemented in Ethiopia, and the number you have dialed has been changed. Please contact your enquiry directory.”
We’re having trouble finding a place to stay when we travel to get our two new kiddos in mid to late June. Argh! I’m working my way from the cheapest (but still decent sounding) possibilities up.
