I wanted to give you more feedback about the Carol’s Daughter products now that I’ve had the chance to use them for awhile. The two products that I’ve used a fair bit are the Tui Hair Oil and the Tui Jojoba and Shea Butter Hair Sheen in a spray bottle.
I’ve reluctantly concluded that the two fragrances I’ve tried are just a little strong. I thought at first that it was just the newness of the smell. But I still notice it every time. When I’ve freshly applied the oil, I can literally smell the girls as soon as they walk into the room. It is a nice smell, but powerful.
Also, neither of the two items is as good at detangling as my favorite Suave 2-Minute conditioner. My girls fuss and complain if I try to pick out their hair without the Suave.
However, there is something I LOVE about the Carol’s Daughter. It leaves a wonderful shine on their hair, and the moisturizing effect lasts for days. I can braid their hair, then take the braids out a week later, and still see the shine and protective oil on the hair when I unbraid. I have the feeling that it will help the hair be stronger and grow better.
I think what I’d like to do is look for an oil hairdressing either from Carol’s Daughter or similar, but with a milder smell, maybe something coconut. I’ve realized after using the Carol’s Daughter that the Suave that is so great for detangling does not have enough moisturizing. So I want to keep oiling the hair at least a couple times a week, but I’d like to find a fragrance I love better and/or that is more mild. Hints, anyone?
(Review of another line of hair products coming soon.)

We’ve been using the Black Vanilla Leave-in conditioner followed by the Hair Milk daily on Alijah’s hair for a couple of weeks now and his hair has never looked better (curls are well defined all day as if he just had his hair washed). Weekly we use the Rosemary Shampoo and Tui Hair Smoothie. I really like the scents, but don’t feel that they are as strong as the ones you are describing, so maybe its just a matter of trying different Carol’s Daughter’s products.
I think Erin recently highlighted (on her blog) a new line of products she found that works great on Belane’s hair, so you might drop her a line to find out about the strength of the scents.
We use a 3 min. conditioner and Olive Oil hair products, and just found a great moisturizer called ‘Mizani Rose H2O Conditioning Hairdress’. It works GREAT and I even reapply to redo ponytails or braids a couple of times before washing again. If you run it in really well, the shine lasts and lasts. Found it at the hair products store at our mall.

Want coconut? Why not just mix up an oil hairdressing of your own? This place seems to have good prices (a gallon for $19 should last you a very long time even with 2 heads of hair).

I too find that Carol’s Daughter hair products, while good, can have a strong smell. There is another product line called Pooka Pure and Simple. They are all natural and the scent of everything, Body Butters, oils, body scrubs is lite. It does not overpower you. They have Shea n’ Olive Hair Butter, which leaves your hair looking sooo smooth and healthy looking and, they also have Nectar Hair Oil and Treatment which I have used as a hot oil treatment. This makes your hair so shiny…not greasy. Their prices are so reasonable. I’ve started seeing them in some of the Whole Food Stores as well. Check out their website at pookapureandsimple.com Also, I was at store and saw an article about them in this months (Nov. 2007) Black Enterprise.
