One of the things I wish I'd done more of in Ethiopia is take pictures of the surroundings and the people. I got lots of pictures of our first days with the girls,in the hotel, guest house and and at the orphanages. But I felt self-conscious about whipping the camera out when we were on the streets.
I was hesitant to do so because I'd heard that sometimes people will object. And each time I came home I was disappointed that I didn't have more scenic pictures-- pictures that would give my daughters a feel for what Ethiopia is really like.
I began collecting pictures from friends who'd traveled, with the idea that one of these days I would put together a simple album of scenic photos from Ethiopia. I wasn't sure what type of album I wanted to use- until I spotted this gorgeous album at Target. Here's
something similar. The album actually comes with different versions of this cover, featuring different parts of the world. I was so thrilled to grab the ONE in the store that actually featured Africa.
A friend was kind enough to share quite a few pictures from the Wollaitta/Sodo area of Ethiopia, where both my daughters were born. I also have some interesting photos that I found under the tag of Ethiopia on http://yotophoto.com/
I am excited to be putting together this album and am hoping that my children will enjoy looking at it over the years. I hope to add to this when we return to Ethiopia. And hey, if you have any interesting scenic or people pictures of Ethiopia that you'd like to share, send them my way!
