On Tuesday my daughter shared with you the experience of her time in Ethiopia. Here is my 14 year old son, sharing about his trip to Ethiopia one year ago, at age 13.

Ethiopia Excursion
It is always fun to go to new places. Last year I got really lucky and got to go to pick up my adopted little sister from Ethiopia with my Mom and my other little sister (who is also adopted from Ethiopia).
It took me a while to realize that half of the actual trip consists of waiting, and the other half consists of well, more waiting. Just kidding, though some of the trip did kind of remind me of Dr. Seuss’s book “Oh The Places You’ll Go”. You know, The Waiting Place where everyone is:
Waiting for a plane to come
Or a person to arrive
Or a taxi to come
Or a paper to be certified
Everyone is just waiting.
But not all the trip was just waiting. Nope, the other half (for me) consisted of:
Soccer : At Layla House with the kids. I tried to hold my own but I think all I succeed in doing was making a fool myself (Those kids run so fast it’s crazy)
Soccer : At the guest house with Rita’s adopted twins (got beat again)
Soccer : At Kidane Meret with the kids. I tried to do the same thing as at Layla House. Same result.
My excuses for getting beat all those times are : Altitude, Jet Lag and uhhh, more Jet Lag. As you can see I played quite a bit of soccer. I love it how games can bridge the barrier of language.
If you ever go to Ethiopia there is no excuse not to try the mango juice. It is at every single fruit stand and corner store, and it is the best thing to drink anywhere, and here is the real secret it’s cheap.
In fact everything there is cheap, and they have a lot of different things: T-Shirts, Hats, Shoes, knives (I just had to buy three, they were so cheap. Muhahaha!), necklaces, salt shakers and tons of other things.
All in all it was a very fun trip with the new food, strange (and sometimes awful) smells, different languages, people and standards of living.
