A week or so ago the adoption.com blogs underwent a makeover. You may have noticed some changes when you’ve visited recently. One of the changes is the sign-in box at the top right corner of every page. We are hoping that will make it easier for readers to participate on this forum.
However, there have been a few glitches, especially for AOL users (including me!) Some people have been getting ‘404′ errors when trying to view pages or when trying to sign in to the forum. The adoption.com tech people are working to resolve issues. But for now they are saying that the best solution is to clear your ‘cookies’.
Many of you probably know how to do this, but I didn’t remember how when they told me to do it, and had to enlist my 15 year old. For those of you who are like me but don’t happen to live with a tech savvy 15 year old, I thought I’d stick the directions below.
I must preface this by saying that I’m totally selfish in doing this! I’ve been missing your comments for the past few days and I want to hear from you again. After all, we blog writers live for comments!
So here you go.
In Internet Explorer:
Open Windows Explorer, select the “C” drive, and open the Windows folder. You’ll find Cookies in both the “Cookies” and the “Temporary Internet Files” folders. Delete unwanted cookies from these folders.
In Netscape:
Go to Tasks, Privacy & Security, Cookie Manager, and View Store Cookies. Either delete your cookies one at a time or click the Remove All Cookies button at the bottom of the window.
The quickest way to do it is to choose the ‘delete all cookies’ option, but I personally find it a HUGE pain in the neck to delete ALL my cookies. I visit a ton of sites and I hate having to enter all my info everywhere I want to comment.
If you also find this a hassle, you may choose to do a search in your cookies folder just for adoption.com cookies and delete only those. I personally went that option and my AOL is now working fine with adoption.com.
I hope that this bit of info might get you back on track if you’ve been unable to comment this week. If you have had additional issues with the site, please let me know and I will pass your comments on to our tech people.
And because I so much love to hear from you, I’ll be giving away a book to one random person who comments on this post. Comment anytime between now and Thursday Dec 20th, and you’ll be entered into a drawing to win your choice of one of the following books:
I’m Chocolate, You’re Vanilla (I’ll blog about this one soon)
Toddler Adoption: The Weaver’s Craft (read about it here)
These are both excellent, highly recommended books, so if you’d like to win one of them, comment here!

I haven’t noticed the problems…I subscribe to the blog through bloglines.com, so it just comes automatically…
Love the blog…we’re still in the waiting stage of our ethiopian adoption!

Okay, you got me with the giveaway! I’m a regular lurker but have never posted because I didn’t want to register (too lazy!).
Anyway, I did get a 404 error, including after I cleared my cookies, when I clicked on “edit profile.” No big deal, but FYI.
I’m a mother of two kids from Ethiopia. We’re American but we live in Egypt. Here’s my blog:

Okay…I love free stuff. But I comment now and again with your blog anyway. We blog every 1 to 3 days and love my sista bloggers. Thank you for all of the writing a personal insight.
How is the champladder going. Be honest. Is it working out? Do you need tips or help? What did you think of the Companion Guide. Have a blessed Christmas (actually with your life you are already blessed 100 times over) and a Happy New Year.

I’ve commented before but haven’t recently. I’m reading daily but have just been swamped with busyness. Sorry for the lack of comments!
I would LOVE to win one of those books!
You and I emailed 2 years ago when I first began praying for adoption for our family. You were such an encouragement to me. It has been a long, faith stretching (and building) two years, but I am encouraged by reading, reading, reading to prepare for when we can go forward.
I have read I’m Chocolate, You’re Vanilla and it was very good. I would love to own that book or the other one

You got me with the giveaway too! I’ve been a lurker for several months now (as a fellow bloger, isn’t it an odd feeling that people lurk on your page and sometimes it’s weeks or even months later when you actually learn about them? if you learn about them at all!?) But here I am, making myself known… twice in one week… I’m on a roll.
We finally got our application mailed in to AAI and we just got our training video in the mail yesterday! Thanks as always for the wonderful insight, support, laughs and tears.

No problems commenting. That’s surprising, since I am using a very
old computer, with Windows 98 and
an outdated version of Opera for
my web browser. I can’t get to ebay (sigh) or our county library system, but I can comment here.
Yep! I can comment!
Hi Mary,
Thanks for all the great info you have on here! We are getting ready to apply to AWAA.
I have been reading your blog for quite a while and I just signed up for an account last week so I could comment. I guess this is a good time to do so!
Last week I had trouble getting on from my work computer; it kept asking me for a Windows password to even connect to the site. Maybe that’s when they were updating things.
Thanks again!

Hi Mary, I have been reading your blog for almost a year now and I really enjoy your posts. I find your comments thoughtful and inspiring. (I’m not just saying that to get a free book!!) We just received our referral from AAI & are hoping to travel in March. About the new makeover – how do we access your posts by the month? I like to read them in order & I don’t see a button for that. Thanks! Lynn
I did notice the issue, but it looks like it has resolved itself. Thank you.
You are right, it IS harder to comment! But the possibility of a book made me do it.
We just got back from Ethiopia a little more than a week ago, and it was an amazing trip. I just put up a bunch of pictures if anyone is interested!
Hmm. I still can’t update my profile, but that might be because there’s a space in my user name. Anyway, if the adoptionblogs.com people ask, at least some of us are still having problems.
